Influence of twisted tape insert on the coolant flow characteristics in swirled film cooling

The present paper discusses film cooling behavior through numerical simulation in the presence of a twisted tape insert inside hole. imparts swirl to coolant flow. Coolant intensity is controlled by varying pitch resulting numbers 0.0289, 0.116, and 0.168. performance evaluated using area-averaged effectiveness heat transfer coefficient for blowing ratios 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0. Results revealed significant amount improvement averaged with addition swirl. predominantly modifies jet trajectory reduced penetration increased lateral expansion. Further investigation on effect thickness distribution has been found be negligible. Pressure losses occurring due insertion hole discharge which indicated necessity higher pumping power than case no-swirl.
